Progress the transition of Western Power owned street lighting to LED

The City has 3980 streetlights which are unmetered and under the control of Western Power.

The South West Group of Councils (comprised of five local governments – Cities of Albany, Armadale, Canning, Cockburn and Melville) and WA Local Government Association (WALGA) are working together to aid the transition to more efficient LED streetlighting.

In August 2022, Council approved the replacement of Western Power owned luminaires with Smart Enabled LED Luminaire Streetlights including the iTron smart control system. The cost of replacement is to be considered as part of the 2023/24 and 2024/25 budgets.
